Creating a Healthy Morning Routine
Your alarm sounds off, a sound you dread each morning so you hit the snooze button once maybe twice before dragging yourself out of bed, reaching for your phone as you head down to the coffee maker. Maybe you watch the news or check your email before you are even fully awake. You start reacting to emails, news, kids and works before you even have a moment to think about what kind of day you want to have. This used to be me, I was reacting to whatever came to me in my day like a kid playing dodgeball in gym class. I hated that game. No matter how on top of your game you are, there will always be that ball coming out of nowhere hitting you right in the gut. it is like everyday is an out of body experience that you are just trying to survive, feeling defeated because you never found time for that workout or that yoga and meditation you have been promising Jill you would get to. When this was me, I found that I was not responding to the events of my day in a healthy mindful way, I was reacting to it like that little kid in gym class reacts to balls flying at him. I left conversations and interactions feeling like I was not my best self.
One of the most powerful things I have found on my mindfulness journey is a morning routine. Sounds so simple but it can change the tone and the energy of your entire day. You have the power to change your entire day by simply taking the time to tune your energy to the right frequency and living your life from that frequency. It is like setting your tv channel to your favorite show and staying on that channel even with a sometimes strong pull to change channels. My channel would be the Hallmark channel, yes I am as corny as I seem.
Morning Routine:
Wake up an hour before you have to do anything. Give yourself time to think about your day. I take a moment to think about my day. I take a moment to think about all the good in my life and feel gratitude for everything I have and everything that is on its way to me.
Drink 16 ounces of water right when you get up. This is a great way to start your day. You are cleansing the body of toxins, getting your digestion going for the day, promoting healthy weight loss and so many other health benefits.
Get your Gut Health Going . There are so many great products out there to give your digestive health a little boost in the morning. I take pre/probiotic with digestive enzymes, ginger, and turmeric in the morning . I have found that it gets my digestion going for the day and promotes healthy digestion throughout the day.
Take some quiet time for you. At times in my life this has meant getting up pretty early but it is so worth it. I take a few moments before any one else is up to sit in stillness, To connect to my energy to feel the fullness of who I am and live my life from that place. This way I show up for everyone including myself the best version of myself. This does not have to be a formal mediation, just 5 minutes or so to set your energy for the day. This way you are not reacting to your day but responding from a mindful place.
When I get off track, which happens for sure. I go for a walk, find a quite place. I listen to Abraham and Hicks . I do whatever I can to reconnect to myself and reset my energy and begin again. I take a moment to forgive myself and acknowledge that I am doing my best and I start my day over again.
I hope this helps you find a morning routine that works best for you and you fill your day with less balls coming at you and more flow, more ease. When you tune your energy to the right channel for you, you allow everything that is meant for you to come you way!
Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is the power to choose our response.
